How To Ride
Here are some tips to help ease the "first-time" jitters of riding the fixed route system:
- WTA is happy to assist you in determining what bus routes you need to get there and back. Call (360) 676-RIDE (7433) and talk to our friendly customer service representatives.
- For help using the Transit Guide, call (360) 676-RIDE (7433).
- Bus fare is 75 cents. Please have exact change since drivers do not carry cash. (For the best value, purchase a monthly bus pass for only $20 and take all the rides you want in a month.) Drop the money in the small slot in the top of the box by the driver. If you have a bus pass, have the magnetic strip facing you and at the bottom, and slide grom right to left in the slot marked for passes.
- Be at the stop a few minutes early.
- Always use the front door to board the bus, and the rear door to exit the bus.
- If you have a bike, place the bike on the rack before boarding the bus.
- Pull the cord to let the driver know you need to get off the bus at the next stop. If you are unsure which stop you need once you are on the bus, just ask the driver!
How To Use Transfers
The purpose of transfers is to allow cash-paying customers to ride a second fixed route bus free if a second bus is needed to complete a one-way trip. Riders must purchase another fare for their return trip or if more than two buses are needed to complete a one-way trip. Transfers are not accepted or given on Route 80X or 80X Shuttle.
- Transfers are color-coded and each day a different color transfer will be issued. Transfers are valid only to the person to whom it was issued. Transfers are valid only to the person to whom it was issued, on the day it is issued, and until the time at tear-off. A transfer will not be given if you used one to board a bus.
- If you need a transfer to complete a one-way trip, please ask the driver for a transfer when you board the bus.
- Bus driver will tear off the transfer slip at the time it expires, which is one hour from the time the bus reaches the transfer centers at Bellingham Transit Station, Cordata Station, or Whatcom Falls Park.
- On the next bus, show the driver your transfer and place in the transfer drop box, on the left side of the farebox as you board the bus. Driver will quickly verify that the transfer is still valid. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE TRANSFERS IN FAREBOX!
- Transfers will not be issued after you get off the bus! Lost, stolen, or damaged transfers will not be replaced. Transfers which are unreadable will not be accepted by the drivers. Transfers are not refundable.
- Transfers from other transit agencies are not valid on WTA buses.
