What Is Specialized Transportation?

WTA Specialized Transportation is a public transportation service that operates within 0.75 miles of WTA fixed route service. Specialized Transportation is provided to people who are unable to use the fixed route transit system because of a disability.

We provide curb-to-curb service. This means we come to your location and take you to your destination. If you need extra assistance from the driver between your door and the vehicle, please make this request when calling in your trip reservation.

Most of the time, we combine trips to provide service to as many passengers as possible.

Everyone who uses the Specialized Transportation system must be eligible before riding. WTA offers Specialized Transportation service to all people with disabilities, as well as to elderly people. If you are interested in applying, please call (360) 733-1144 or click here to send us an email. We will mail a brief request form to be signed and schedule a telephone interview, or provide a full application to be completed in writing. We will assess your transportation needs and notify you of your eligibility status within 21 days of receiving your application or completing your interview.

WTA operates more than 10,000 Specialized Transportation trips per month, with our fleet of 40 wheelchair-lift equipped vehicles. We provide service seven days a week in the same areas served by our Fixed Route buses. In areas that don't receive Fixed Route bus service, Specialized Transportation operates up to two days a week. During evenings and on Sundays, Specialized Transportation is available within 0.75 miles of the Evening and Sunday transit routes, which are more limited than the daytime routes that operate during the rest of the week.

To check where and when the Evening and Sunday routes operate, see Routes 15, 16, 24, 105, 232, and 331.

We work to provide you safe, convenient, and reliable transportation service. If you need more information about Specialized Transportation, please give us a call at (360) 733-1144, or (360) 676-6844 Teletype Users ( TTY).
